Choosing the correct transport for your new baby is an important and complex decision with so many options and manufacturers to choose from it's a little mind boggling at first. We find it's always best to identify one's own particular lifestyle and aspirations. On many occasions customers approach us with a specific style of pushchair or pram in mind. Whether a traditional pram like the Mamas and Papas Ultima 3 in 1 or a more modern solution like the Quinny Buzz It's important to think about the following considerations, weight of the pushchair or pram. Are you going to be able to easily lift it? Do you need to be able to lift the pushchair or pram in and out of a car for example or on and off of public transport? The size of the pushchair or pram is also important, will it fit into your car? In the case of twin pushchairs will the buggy fit through most doorways? How easy is the folding action. Many Travel Systems like the Britax Excel offer a "One handed fold" Which will pay for itself over and over again. On the New Mamas and Papas Pliko Pramette a "One handed Fold" is also being introduced. The age of your child is also an important consideration. Some of the lighter buggies and strollers are only suitable from 3 or 6 months for example the Maclaren Quest or the Maclaren Triumph. However if you move up the Maclaren range the Maclaren Techno XT and the Maclaren Techno Classic are both suitable from birth with the Maclaren Techno Classic coming complete with hood, raincover and footmuff. Do you plan to do a lot of walking with your child or new baby? Then wheel size is and import issue. Small lightweight buggies tend to come with smaller wheels more suitable for short journeys around town. If you're planning on racking up some serious miles then a larger wheeled pushchair would be more suitable or even better a 3 wheeler or as they are sometimes known all terrain pushchairs. The most popular at the moment is the Jane Powertrack, the Slalom Pro and the Quinny Buzz; both of these 3 wheelers offer large wheels with lockable swivel front wheel. And with front disc brakes.
If you're looking for your first pushchair for your newborn baby then you might want to consider a Travel System. The definition of a travel system is a pushchair and car seat that are compatible and fit together. Most take only a 0+ birth to 13kg car seat like the Mamas and Papas Pliko Pramette or the Britax Excel Travel System. Some travel systems also take a carrycot which keeps the baby flat and can also be used as an alternative to a moses basket. |
